In Memory of Gena Rangel

August 1, 1940 – June 18, 2026

Geneva Light Opera honors the memory of Gena Rangel—a gifted musician, educator, mentor, and devoted advocate for the performing arts whose passion and leadership enriched our organization and our entire community.

Throughout her life, Gena inspired countless students, performers, and audiences through her love of music and unwavering commitment to artistic excellence. After a distinguished career as a music educator and performer in New York City, she returned to Geneva, where she became an integral part of Geneva Light Opera and the Smith Opera House. Her warmth, generosity, creativity, and tireless dedication helped shape productions that brought joy to thousands.

Gena passed away while doing what she loved most—preparing for another production alongside the musicians, performers, technicians, volunteers, and friends who became her extended family. Her legacy lives on in every performance, every young artist she inspired, and every life she touched. As a tribute to her remarkable contributions, Geneva Light Opera’s production of The Daughter of the Regiment is dedicated to her memory.

Honor Gena’s Legacy

If Gena’s life or work touched you, we invite you to honor her memory with a gift to Geneva Light Opera.
